A murder investigation is underway following the tragic death of 24-year-old Harshita Brella, whose body was discovered in the boot of a car on Brisbane Road in Ilford, east London. Concerns for Ms Brella’s welfare were raised on 13 November, leading Northamptonshire Police to conduct a welfare check at her home in Skegness Walk, Corby. Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, leading the investigation from the East Midlands Special Operations Major Crime Unit (EMSOU), expressed his condolences, highlighting the tragedy of a young life cut short. A post-mortem examination confirmed that her death was a homicide.

The investigation has seen the police making a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact between the force and Ms Brella. While police believe there is no wider risk to the public, they have increased patrols in the Corby area to reassure the community.
