Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler has made history by winning the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton, capping off an extraordinary debut year in professional darts. The 17-year-old, ranked fifth in the PDC Order of Merit, achieved a stunning 16-3 victory over Martin Lukeman in the final, dominating the match after initially trailing 2-0.
In a remarkable turnaround, Littler won 15 consecutive legs to secure the Eric Bristow Trophy and his first major ranking title, earning £150,000 in prize money. He showcased his exceptional scoring ability, hitting 12 180s and finishing with an impressive average of 107.08 throughout the match.
Littler’s journey to the final included a thrilling semi-final against two-time world champion Gary Anderson, where he came from behind to win 16-15 in a nail-biting contest. Anderson had led 13-9 at one point, but Littler showcased his resilience, winning seven of the last nine legs to advance.
After his victory, Littler expressed his delight, stating, “I’m so glad to win it. I’ve been playing well all week. It shows I’m still here.” Moving up to fifth in the world rankings in just ten months, he set his sights on even greater achievements, aiming to challenge for the top records in darts.
Lukeman, who earned £70,000 for his second-place finish, praised Littler, calling him “different gravy” and highlighting his positive impact on the sport, attracting new fans and sponsorships.
As Littler prepares for the upcoming World Championships starting on 15 December, he has claimed his tenth title of 2024 and solidified his position as a rising star in the world of darts.
