Coleen Rooney Opens Up About Tragic Loss of Sister on I'm A Celebrity
Coleen Rooney has opened up about the heart-wrenching loss of her younger sister, Rosie McLoughlin, during her time on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. Rosie, who suffered from Rett syndrome, died aged just 14 in 2013 after a lifelong struggle with the rare genetic disorder that causes severe disabilities.
Reflecting on her sister’s death, Coleen shared her emotions with fellow campmates, including boxer Barry McGuigan, who also discussed his own family’s grief following the loss of his daughter, Danika. During the emotionally charged conversation, Coleen stated, “Even when Rosie died, I kept it together for me mum and dad,” emphasising the profound impact of losing a child. She revealed that Rosie would be 26 years old now, and summed up the pain of her loss by saying, “To lose a child is the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone.”
In her discussions, Coleen recounted the struggles Rosie faced, saying, “She couldn’t walk and she couldn’t talk. She would be in pain and sick but still put a smile on her face.” Despite Rosie’s severe disabilities, Coleen described how her sister brought joy and inspiration to their family, highlighting her enduring spirit even in the face of adversity.
Rosie’s health challenges were significant, leading to numerous hospitalisations, but the family was determined to keep her spirit alive. Coleen’s mother, Colette, shared that when Rosie became gravely ill, they arranged for her to return home for her final days, where they celebrated her life together with a special party.
The conversation on I’m A Celeb allowed Coleen to reflect publicly on a topic she has typically kept private, illuminating the depth of her family’s connection and the lasting impact Rosie had on their lives. As she continues her journey on the show, Coleen’s candidness regarding her sister’s memory serves as a poignant reminder of the love and loss they experienced.
