The team made history on 18 November 2024 by defeating Liechtenstein 3-1, marking their first-ever away victory and the first time they have scored three goals in a competitive match.
In an impressive turnaround, San Marino, who were trailing 1-0 at halftime, rallied in the second half with goals from Lorenzo Lazzari, Nicola Nanni—who converted a penalty—and Alessandro Golinucci. This victory not only secured them the top spot in Group D1 but also culminated in their promotion, finishing the group with seven points.
This success comes just months after San Marino recorded their first win in 20 years, also against Liechtenstein, in a 1-0 home match in September. Prior to these matches, the team had endured a long-standing winless streak, making their recent performances even more significant.
