Reverend Richard Coles, the former Communards musician turned Church of England priest, has officially joined the 2024 season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! alongside Love Island star Maura Higgins. Their entrance, which is expected to shake up the current camp dynamics, was confirmed by hosts Ant and Dec during the show’s recent episode.

Coles, who was ordained in 2005 and served as a priest until his retirement in 2022, has shared his excitement and apprehension about the jungle experience. The 62-year-old admitted he is concerned about adjusting from a diet of around 5,000 calories a day to the restricted meals usually allotted to contestants. He humorously noted that eating just 500 calories might feel like a mere snack for him.

Having previously competed on Strictly Come Dancing, Coles brings a wealth of entertainment experience to the show. He expressed his desire to connect with other camp members, admitting he might struggle to recognise some of them due to the variety of celebrity backgrounds. Known for his candid personality, he aims to be himself and hopes to share interesting stories with his fellow contestants.

The reverend has also acknowledged some fears regarding potential Bushtucker trials, particularly those involving heights, which he finds daunting. Coles has noted that his presence in the jungle could be both a challenge and a unique opportunity for self-discovery, and he is prepared for the unexpected experiences ahead.
