Ireland Dominate Fiji in Autumn Nations Series Clash

Ireland showcased a dominant performance, defeating Fiji 52-17 in their Autumn Nations Series clash at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The match saw Ireland bounce back from a series of mixed results, underscoring their intent ahead of a crucial encounter with Australia next week.

The Irish side, featuring seven personnel changes, started strongly, with Caelan Doris opening the scoring just five minutes in. Although rookie fly-half Sam Prendergast had an eventful debut, receiving a yellow card for a shoulder tackle early on, he returned to contribute significantly to the team’s scoring efforts.

Ireland led 28-3 at halftime, following tries from Josh van der Flier, Craig Casey, and Mack Hansen, with Prendergast converting three of the scores. Fiji struggled to maintain discipline, conceding penalties that hampered their efforts throughout the first half.

In the second half, Bundee Aki continued Ireland’s scoring spree before Fiji responded with a try from Kitione Salawa. However, debutant hooker Gus McCarthy quickly added to Ireland’s tally, scoring his first international try. Fiji’s Setareki Turagacoke later found the score sheet, providing a brief rally for the Pacific Islanders.

Mack Hansen further extended Ireland’s lead with his second try before Ronan Kelleher rounded off the scoring in the final minutes of the match. Overall, Ireland’s performance highlighted their depth and resilience as they prepare for a challenging fixture against Australia, with many players vying for spots in the upcoming Lions tour.

Head coach Andy Farrell expressed satisfaction with the team’s execution and discipline, suggesting there is still room for improvement as they aim to finish their autumn campaign on a high note.
