Amanda Holden and Alan Carr Revive Spanish Village with Renovation Show

Amanda Holden and Alan Carr have returned for a third series of their popular renovation show, this time transforming a derelict property in the Andalusian village of Moclín, Spain. The duo, known for their previous work in Italy, purchased the Spanish villa for €65,000 after it had been abandoned for 35 years. The property, located near Granada, required extensive renovations, including a new roof and loft conversion. During the process, the pair discovered some unexpected surprises, including a snake dropping from the ceiling and a “poo in the bath.”

The renovation project, which aired on BBC 1, aimed to revitalise the sleepy village of Moclín, which has a population of just 200. The house, named Casa Alamanda, features Moorish-inspired designs, including traditional Mudejar-style ceilings inspired by Granada’s Alhambra palace. The top floor has been transformed into a stylish bar lounge, dubbed the “Soho House of Moclín,” while the property also includes three bedrooms and a courtyard with potential for additional buildings.

Holden and Carr hope the renovated villa will attract visitors and boost the local economy, much like their previous projects in Italy, where they successfully flipped properties under the country’s €1 home scheme. The house will be sold fully furnished, complete with luxurious bedding, sofas, and a reception bell, with the potential to operate as a bed and breakfast.

The show has already brought a buzz to the village, with the crew frequenting the local bar during filming. Moclín, a picturesque town with properties available for as little as €35,000, is described as being “one generation away from disappearing,” making the duo’s efforts to breathe new life into the area all the more significant.
