Amanda Holden and Alan Carr Tackle Their Most Ambitious Renovation Yet in Spain

Amanda Holden and Alan Carr have returned to television screens with their latest renovation project, Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job, which sees the duo transforming a derelict property in the Andalusian village of Moclín, near Granada. The Spanish villa, which had been abandoned for 35 years, was purchased for €65,000 and is their most ambitious project to date. The show, airing on BBC One, follows their previous successes in Italy, where they restored properties in Sicily and Tuscany.

During the renovation, the pair encountered some unexpected challenges, including a rather unpleasant discovery. “We found a poo in the bath,” Carr revealed during an appearance on Heart Breakfast. Holden added, “That was the first thing we had to do—throw a poo out the window.” Carr admitted he wasn’t particularly practical, describing how he used a sieve to dispose of it, only for Holden to step in and handle the situation properly.

The property, named Casa Alamanda, is heavily inspired by Andalucia’s Moorish heritage, with Holden drawing inspiration from Granada’s Alhambra palace. The renovation involved replacing the roof, converting the loft, and incorporating traditional techniques, such as Mudejar-style ceilings. Carr even created a sultry blue bar lounge on the top floor, which he dubbed the “Soho House of Moclín.”

The duo hopes their efforts will breathe new life into the village, which has seen its population dwindle to just 200 residents. The property, which will be sold fully furnished, is expected to be used as a bed and breakfast to promote year-round tourism. The show has already brought a buzz to the town, with the crew frequenting local establishments during filming.

Holden and Carr’s camaraderie and banter remain a highlight of the series, with Carr teasing Holden about her “tacky” taste in décor during an appearance on The One Show. Despite their playful disagreements, the pair’s partnership continues to captivate audiences as they take on their most challenging renovation yet.
