Tornado Leaves Trevornick Holiday Park Resembling a War Zone

A Holywell Bay holiday park, Trevornick Holiday Park, has been described as resembling a “war zone” after being struck by a suspected tornado on Thursday morning. The twister caused significant damage to caravans, with some completely destroyed, roofs blown off, and windows shattered. Fortunately, the park was closed to the public at the time, and no injuries were reported among staff or visitors.

The tornado, which swept through Newquay and Holywell Bay shortly before 10am, left a trail of destruction in its wake. Caravans were overturned, and debris was scattered across the park. Trevornick Holiday Park confirmed that the damage was confined to a very isolated area and that their team had already begun a clean-up operation to restore the park to its five-star standards.

Residents and witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with trees uprooted, roofs torn off, and debris flying through the air. Jennifer Smale, a local resident, remarked that it was fortunate the park was closed, as the damage could have resulted in fatalities. The tornado also caused damage to nearby areas, including the old barracks at Penhale and properties in Quintrell Downs.

Despite the destruction, Trevornick Holiday Park remains a celebrated destination, having recently been named the AA Holiday Park of the Year for 2024. The park boasts a range of facilities, including a heated swimming pool, woodland adventure trails, and two 18-hole golf courses, making it a popular choice for families and holidaymakers.
