India Dominates England in Second T20I to Lead Series 2-0
India secured a commanding victory over England in the second T20I at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Chasing a modest target of 133, India romped home with seven wickets and 43 balls to spare, thanks to a blistering 79 off 34 balls from Abhishek Sharma.
England, batting first after losing the toss, struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Arshdeep Singh set the tone early, dismissing Phil Salt in the first over and finishing with figures of 2-17. Varun Chakravarthy then dismantled England’s middle order, claiming 3-23, including the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler, who top-scored with 68. England were bowled out for 132 in 20 overs, with only Buttler and Harry Brook (17) offering any resistance.
In reply, India’s chase was anchored by Abhishek Sharma, who smashed eight sixes and five fours in a breathtaking innings. Despite losing Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav early to Jofra Archer, Abhishek’s aggressive batting ensured India cruised to victory. Tilak Varma (14*) and Hardik Pandya (2*) saw the hosts home comfortably.
The match highlighted England’s ongoing struggles against spin, with Varun and Axar Patel (2-22) exploiting the conditions effectively. India’s fielding was also sharp, with Nitish Kumar Reddy taking a stunning catch to dismiss Buttler. England’s bowlers, apart from Archer (2-21), lacked penetration, with Gus Atkinson conceding 38 runs in just two overs.
India’s dominance was evident as they outplayed England in all departments, leaving the visitors with much to ponder ahead of the third T20I. The series now moves to Ahmedabad, where England will aim to bounce back, while India look to extend their lead.
