Comedian and television presenter Mel Giedroyc was revealed as the celebrity behind the “Teeth” costume on The Masked Singer UK during the show’s latest episode, which aired on Saturday, 25 January. The 56-year-old, best known for co-hosting The Great British Bake Off with Sue Perkins, was unmasked after losing a sing-off against fellow contestant “Bear.”

Giedroyc, who performed the Neighbours theme tune in her final appearance, had successfully disguised her identity by altering her voice throughout the competition. The judging panel, including Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Maya Jama, had speculated that “Teeth” could be radio star Fearne Cotton, podcaster Rosie Ramsey, BBC sports presenter Alex Scott, or comedian Su Pollard. However, none guessed it was Giedroyc.

Following her unmasking, Giedroyc expressed her delight at the experience, saying, “I’ll take Su Pollard! It’s so nice to see you guys. I love these teeth so much!” She added that the show was “impossible not to have fun on” and revealed that her next planned performance would have been a rendition of The Pointer Sisters’ Automatic in the style of Marlene Dietrich.

Giedroyc also shared that her husband was the only person who knew about her participation, and he had taken her training “very seriously.” She joked about her longtime friend and former Bake Off co-host Sue Perkins, who had previously appeared on the show as “Dragon” in 2021, saying, “She doesn’t know! She was a Dragon and she never told me. So right back at ya, girlfriend!”

The elimination of “Teeth” leaves seven contestants remaining in the competition: Bush, Wolf, Bear, Dressed Crab, Kingfisher, Snail, and Pufferfish. The Masked Singer UK continues to air on ITV1 and ITVX, with a double elimination expected in the upcoming episode.
