Fuji TV Addresses Controversy Involving Former Talent Masahiro Nakai

Fuji TV held a press conference on the 27th regarding the issue involving former talent Masahiro Nakai (52) and a woman, in which the involvement of a company employee was pointed out. President Koichi Minato and Chairman Shuji Kano attended the conference and explained the series of events. Isoko Mochizuki, a reporter from Tokyo Shimbun, pressed them harshly, asking, “Aren’t you angry with Nakai? What about Ms. A?”

President Minato responded, “I think it’s appropriate to say I felt anger. I did feel that,” acknowledging his anger towards Nakai. Regarding the handling of the woman, he stated, “We are limiting our comments to involvement on specific days. I am not fully aware of the background events or recent reports,” emphasising the need for a detailed investigation.

During the conference, questions were also raised about whether female announcers were called upon as “entertainment personnel.” President Minato reflected, “There were social gatherings and dinners where they were present. Looking back calmly now, there might have been people who felt compelled to attend when invited by someone in a superior position, even if they didn’t want to.”

The conference lasted for a long time, with reporters firing tough questions. In particular, when asked about the future of Hisashi Hieda, the response was, “We will refrain from commenting on individual remarks,” avoiding a specific answer. This led to shouts from the audience, such as “Why are you dodging?” and “You’re not answering the question.”

In light of this trouble, Fuji TV has pledged to restore trust under a new system, but the specific path forward remains unclear.
