Princess Beatrice Welcomes Second Child, Baby Girl Athena
Princess Beatrice has given birth to her second child, a baby girl named Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace has announced. The newborn arrived several weeks prematurely on 22 January at 12.57pm at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, weighing 4lb 5oz. Despite the early arrival, both mother and baby are said to be healthy and doing well.
Athena is the second child of Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who also has a son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship. The couple’s first daughter, Sienna, was born in 2021. The family, including Athena’s older siblings, are reportedly “completely besotted” with the new arrival. Edoardo shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, describing Athena as “tiny and absolutely perfect” and expressing gratitude to the hospital staff for their “exceptional care.”
The King, the Queen, and other members of the Royal Family have been informed of the birth and are said to be “delighted” with the news. Athena is the fourth grandchild of the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, and is now 11th in line to the throne. Sarah Ferguson took to social media to express her joy, calling herself “incredibly blessed to be a granny once again.”
Princess Beatrice had been due to give birth in early spring but was advised by her medical team in December not to travel long distances. As a result, the family spent Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham instead of travelling abroad as originally planned. The Princess has since returned home with her newborn and is enjoying time with her family.
