Ireland Triumphs Over Scotland in Six Nations Clash
Ireland secured a commanding 32-18 victory over Scotland in a bruising Six Nations encounter at Murrayfield, extending their winning streak against the Scots to 11 matches. The match, played in front of a packed crowd, saw Ireland dominate from the outset, with tries from Calvin Nash, Caelan Doris, James Lowe, and Jack Conan sealing a bonus-point win.
Ireland started strongly, with Nash crossing untouched after a pinpoint pass from fly-half Sam Prendergast, who also converted the try. Scotland’s Duhan van der Merwe was sin-binned for foul play, and Ireland capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Doris powering over following a slick first-phase move. Despite a moment of brilliance from Van der Merwe, who scored a stunning try after returning from the sin-bin, Scotland trailed 17-5 at half-time.
The second half saw Scotland briefly rally, with Blair Kinghorn slotting two penalties to narrow the gap to six points. However, Ireland’s clinical edge proved decisive. Lowe’s dazzling footwork and strength saw him power past three defenders to score, while Conan pounced on a Scottish error to secure the bonus-point try. Prendergast, who orchestrated play with precision, added a penalty to extend Ireland’s lead. Scotland’s Ben White scored a late consolation try, but it was too little, too late.
Ireland’s interim head coach Simon Easterby praised his team’s control and intent, while Scotland’s Gregor Townsend lamented his side’s lack of accuracy. The result leaves Ireland as the only unbeaten side in the tournament, with their Grand Slam hopes firmly alive. Scotland, meanwhile, must regroup ahead of their Calcutta Cup clash with England.
