Lucy Punch Shines in New BBC Series *Amandaland*

Lucy Punch, one of the UK’s most celebrated comedic talents, is back in the spotlight with her new BBC One series, Amandaland, a spin-off from the hit show Motherland. The series sees Punch reprising her role as Amanda, the elitist and self-absorbed mum navigating life post-divorce in the less affluent South Harlesden, which she insists on calling “SoHa”. The show, which premiered on 5 February 2025, has been praised for its sharp wit and heartfelt moments, with Punch delivering a standout performance.

Joining Punch is Joanna Lumley, who plays Amanda’s mother, Felicity. The duo’s chemistry has been described as a “dream double act”, blending humour with poignant glimpses into Amanda’s struggles as a single mother and Felicity’s reflections on ageing. The series also introduces new characters, including Mal (Samuel Anderson), a charming neighbour, and Della (Siobhán McSweeney), a celebrity chef who clashes hilariously with Amanda. The show’s writing deftly captures the chaos of parenting teenagers, from first loves to incomprehensible maths homework.

While Amandaland retains the comedic brilliance of Motherland, it also explores deeper themes, such as gentrification and the challenges of middle-class displacement. Critics have lauded the series for its clever humour and relatable storytelling, with Punch’s performance being hailed as her best yet. The show airs on BBC One and iPlayer, offering a mix of laughter and heartwarming moments for fans of British comedy.
