Plymouth Argyle Thrash Millwall 5-1 in Championship Showdown

Plymouth Argyle delivered a stunning performance to secure a 5-1 victory over Millwall at Home Park on Wednesday, 12 February 2025, marking their biggest win of the Championship season. The result lifted Argyle off the bottom of the table, providing a significant boost to their survival hopes.

The Pilgrims took an early lead in the sixth minute when a low cross from Callum Wright rebounded off former Argyle loanee Joe Bryan and into the net for an own goal. Ryan Hardie doubled the advantage just four minutes later, converting a penalty after Adam Randell was fouled in the box. Hardie’s spot-kick marked his third penalty in as many games and his sixth goal of the season.

Argyle continued their dominance in the second half, with Mustapha Bundu extending the lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute with a well-placed shot. Hardie then added his second goal of the night, chipping the ball over Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen after a defensive error. Despite Bryan pulling one back for Millwall in the 80th minute, Argyle had the final say when Nikola Katic poked home from close range following a goalmouth scramble.

The victory marked Argyle’s third consecutive win in all competitions, following their recent FA Cup triumph over Liverpool. Manager Miron Muslic made three changes to the starting lineup, with Victor Palsson, Nathanael Ogbeta, and Jordan Houghton coming into the side. The result moved Argyle above Luton Town in the Championship table, with their next league fixture set against Blackburn Rovers.

Millwall, who had entered the match on a four-game winning streak, were outclassed by an Argyle side that was clinical in front of goal. The Lions’ manager, Alex Neil, made several substitutions in an attempt to turn the tide, but his side struggled to contain the Pilgrims’ attacking threat.

The win was a significant moment for Argyle, who are now showing signs of resurgence in their fight against relegation. With seven points from their last three league games, the Green Army will be hoping this momentum continues as they aim to secure their Championship status.
