UK Braces for Hazardous Weather; Snow, Ice, and Freezing Rain Forecast
A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of the UK tomorrow, with snow, ice, and freezing rain forecast. The warning, in effect from 6am to 2pm, highlights the risk of hazardous conditions, particularly in northern England. Freezing rain, a rare and dangerous phenomenon where liquid droplets freeze instantly on impact with the ground, is expected in areas above 200m, such as the Pennines.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Tyre specialist James Harding emphasised the importance of reducing speed, maintaining safe distances, and avoiding sudden braking or acceleration to prevent skidding.
In the East Midlands, rain is expected to turn wintry, particularly on higher ground like the Derbyshire hills, with temperatures struggling to rise above 4°C. The Met Office has warned of heavy rain at times, with a chance of snow flurries.
The cold spell follows a week of overcast conditions across much of the UK, with some areas, including London and Leeds, recording no sunshine in the past seven days. The public is urged to stay updated on weather warnings and plan journeys carefully.
