BT Email Services Hit by Major Outage Across the UK
BT email services experienced a significant outage on Saturday, 15 February 2025, leaving thousands of customers unable to access their emails. The issue began around 05:00 GMT, with over 5,000 complaints logged on Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages. The majority of reports highlighted difficulties accessing BT email, while a smaller percentage of users also faced broadband connectivity issues.
Customers across the UK, from Aberdeenshire and Dumfries in Scotland to Warwick, Norfolk, and Wakefield in England, took to social media to express their frustration. Many reported receiving error messages such as “BT Server Outage. Try again later” or being unable to load their emails. Some users found temporary relief by switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data, but others remained locked out of their accounts.
BT acknowledged the issue early in the day, stating that they were investigating the cause and apologising for the inconvenience. The company advised affected customers to use mobile data as an alternative to Wi-Fi for accessing their emails. By 14:00 GMT, BT confirmed that the problem had been resolved and apologised again for the disruption. The outage did not affect other BT services, including broadband, TV, and mobile packages.
The incident sparked widespread criticism on social media, with customers questioning why BT had not provided timely updates or acknowledged the issue on their official channels. Despite the frustration, the company assured users that no other services were impacted and that the email access issue had been fully resolved by the afternoon.
