BT Email Services Hit by Widespread Outage Across the UK
BT email services experienced a widespread outage on Saturday morning, leaving thousands of customers unable to access their accounts. The issue began around 05:00 GMT, with over 5,000 complaints logged on Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages. Reports of the disruption came from across the UK, including areas such as Aberdeenshire, Dumfries, Warwick, Norfolk, and Wakefield.
BT confirmed that the problem was resolved by 14:00 GMT and apologised for the inconvenience caused. The outage specifically affected email services, while other BT services, including broadband, TV, and mobile packages, remained operational. Customers were advised to switch off Wi-Fi and use mobile data as a temporary workaround to access their emails.
Social media was flooded with complaints from frustrated users, with many expressing their inability to log in or receive error messages such as “BT Server Outage. Try again later.” Some customers reported success in accessing their emails after switching to mobile data.
BT stated that it had investigated the cause of the outage but did not provide further details. The company assured customers that no other services were impacted and encouraged those still experiencing issues to contact BT support via live chat or phone. This incident follows a recent announcement by BT regarding price increases for mobile and broadband services, set to take effect from March.
