BT Email Services Restored After Nationwide Outage

BT email services have been restored following a widespread outage that left thousands of customers unable to access their accounts on Saturday morning. The issue, which began around 05:00 GMT, prompted over 5,000 complaints on the tracking site Downdetector, with more than 90% of reports related to email access. BT confirmed the problem was resolved by 14:00 GMT and apologised to affected customers.

The outage appeared to be nationwide, with users from Aberdeenshire and Dumfries in Scotland to Warwick, Norfolk, and Wakefield in England reporting issues on social media. BT advised impacted customers to switch off Wi-Fi and use mobile data as a temporary workaround, which some found effective. Other services, including broadband, TV, and mobile packages, remained unaffected.

BT stated it was investigating the cause of the disruption. Customers experiencing ongoing issues were encouraged to contact BT support via live chat or phone. The incident follows recent technical difficulties reported by other major service providers, including HSBC, highlighting ongoing challenges in maintaining digital service reliability.
