Delta Air Lines Flight Crashes at Toronto Pearson Airport, All Survive

A Delta Air Lines flight carrying 80 people crashed and flipped over upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, 17 February 2025. The CRJ-900 regional jet, operated by Delta’s subsidiary Endeavor Air, was arriving from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport when the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. ET. Miraculously, all 76 passengers and four crew members survived, with 21 individuals sustaining injuries. Two people were airlifted in critical condition, while 19 others were treated and released from local hospitals.

Video footage captured the aircraft skidding along the runway before flipping upside down, with smoke and fire visible. Emergency crews responded swiftly, extinguishing spot fires and evacuating passengers. Many passengers self-evacuated, while flight attendants were praised for their quick actions in guiding others to safety. The runway was reportedly dry at the time of the crash, and crosswinds were not a factor, according to airport officials.

The crash occurred amid challenging weather conditions, with Toronto experiencing heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures in the days leading up to the incident. However, Monday was described as a “clear day” for operational recovery. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian expressed gratitude for the first responders and medical teams, emphasising the airline’s commitment to safety. Flights at Toronto Pearson resumed by 5 p.m. ET, though two runways remained closed for investigation. The incident marks the fourth major aviation accident in North America since the start of 2025, raising concerns about aviation safety amid extreme weather conditions.
