Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 2 Launches with New Features and Extended Downtime
Fortnite servers were taken offline on 21 February for scheduled maintenance ahead of the launch of Chapter 6, Season 2. The downtime began at 7am GMT, with matchmaking disabled at 6.30am UK time. Epic Games confirmed the update, which introduced a new Battle Pass and significant map changes, would require extended downtime, lasting approximately 3-4 hours. However, the servers were restored later than expected, with full functionality returning around 12.20pm GMT.
The update, version 34.00, brought a host of new features, including the Crime City map, new Points of Interest (POIs) such as Hostile Hotel, Wise Guys Bookstore, and Outlaw Oasis, and a fresh Battle Pass featuring skins like Cassidy Quinn, Joss, and Sub-Zero. Players can also expect new gameplay mechanics, including heist-themed activities like robbing armoured cars and trains, as well as new weapons such as the Rocket Drill and Collateral Damage Assault Rifle.
Epic Games advised players to pre-download the update on consoles to minimise delays once the servers were back online. Despite the extended downtime, the new season, titled “Lawless,” is now live, offering players a wealth of new content and challenges to explore.
