Kevin Spacey Responds to Guy Pearce's Allegations
Kevin Spacey has responded to allegations made by fellow actor Guy Pearce, who claimed that Spacey “targeted” him during the filming of the 1997 movie LA Confidential. In a video posted on X, Spacey told Pearce to “grow up” and asserted, “You are not a victim.” Pearce, who recently expanded on his experiences with Spacey, described feeling “young and susceptible” during the production, stating that Spacey was “quite an aggressive man” but also “extremely charming and brilliant.”
Pearce revealed that he had “brushed off” Spacey’s alleged behaviour at the time, but the #MeToo movement prompted him to reflect on the impact of those experiences. He admitted to breaking down and sobbing when allegations against Spacey emerged in 2017, realising how he had “shelved” or “blocked out” the incidents. Pearce also mentioned feeling safer on set when co-star Simon Baker was present, as Spacey allegedly shifted his focus to Baker.
In his response, Spacey criticised Pearce for not addressing the issue privately, suggesting they could have had a conversation instead of speaking to the press. He also questioned Pearce’s narrative, pointing out that Pearce had flown to Georgia a year after LA Confidential to spend time with him while Spacey was filming Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Spacey concluded by offering to have a public or private conversation with Pearce, reiterating that he has “nothing to hide.”
Spacey, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct in recent years, was acquitted of all charges in a 2023 UK trial and has consistently denied any illegal behaviour. Pearce, meanwhile, has expressed a desire to be more candid about his experiences, stating that he has had “ugly” confrontations with Spacey in the past.
