Major Internet Outage Hits Community Fibre Customers in London
Thousands of Community Fibre customers across London were left without internet access following a major outage that began around midday. The broadband provider, which serves 1.3 million homes and 185,000 businesses primarily in the capital, confirmed the disruption after more than 9,000 users reported issues on Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages.
The outage affected both internet connectivity and customer service channels, including live chat and phone support, leaving frustrated users unable to contact the company. Many took to social media to voice their concerns, with some describing the situation as “ridiculous” and others threatening to cancel their contracts. Community Fibre acknowledged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), stating that engineers were treating it as a “top priority” and working to restore services.
By late afternoon, the company reported that most affected customers had regained connectivity, though some remained offline. A spokesperson for Community Fibre apologised for the inconvenience and assured customers that efforts to resolve the issue were ongoing. The cause of the outage was not disclosed.
Customers experiencing prolonged disruptions may be entitled to compensation under Ofcom guidelines, which mandate payments of £8 per day for outages lasting more than two full days. Community Fibre is a member of the CISAS Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme, which customers can approach if issues remain unresolved after eight weeks.
