Newcastle United Edges Out Nottingham Forest in Premier League Thriller
Newcastle United secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest in a Premier League clash at St James’ Park, despite a late comeback attempt by the visitors. The match was a tale of two halves, with Newcastle dominating the first and Forest rallying in the second.
Forest took an early lead in the seventh minute through Callum Hudson-Odoi, who capitalised on a defensive error to curl a shot past Nick Pope. However, Newcastle responded emphatically, scoring four goals in 11 minutes. Lewis Miley equalised with a low drive, followed by Jacob Murphy bundling in a second. Alexander Isak then converted a penalty after Ola Aina handled in the box, before adding a fourth with a deflected strike to make it 4-1 at half-time.
The second half saw Forest regain their composure. Nikola Milenkovic pulled one back with a close-range finish, and Ryan Yates set up a nervy finale with a goal in the 90th minute. Despite Forest’s late push, Newcastle held on to claim the win, moving them up to fifth in the table, three points behind third-placed Forest.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his team’s first-half performance but admitted they struggled in the second half, saying, “First half we were brilliant, outstanding, second half was a tough watch.” Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo lamented his side’s slow start, stating, “First half Newcastle were better. Second half, us better. But it was too bad, too soon.”
The result leaves Newcastle in contention for a Champions League spot, while Forest will look to bounce back in their next fixture against Arsenal.
