Parts of northern England, including Yorkshire, are set to experience sleet, snow, and rare freezing rain this weekend, according to the Met Office. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice was issued for Saturday, 15 February 2025, covering areas such as the North East, Yorkshire, and parts of Cumbria. The warning, initially in place from 6am to 2pm, was later cancelled, but disruptions to travel are still expected.

Up to 5cm of snow could accumulate in higher areas, particularly above 150 metres, with the Cheviots and North York Moors likely to see the heaviest snowfall. Freezing rain, which creates hazardous black ice, is also predicted, especially over the Pennines. The Met Office has warned of potentially dangerous driving conditions and urged motorists to plan routes carefully and allow extra time for journeys.

In addition to the wintry conditions, heavy rain is forecast for southern Wales and southwest England. The weather follows a notably grey and wet winter, with sunshine levels significantly below average. However, milder and more unsettled weather is expected to move in from the west later next week, bringing brighter conditions.
