Kraken's AI Technology Revolutionises Energy Management
Amir Orad, CEO of Kraken, the AI-driven energy management platform, has highlighted how the technology is transforming the energy sector by optimising grid management and reducing emissions. Originally developed by Octopus Energy, Kraken now operates independently, providing advanced solutions to utilities worldwide. The platform processes billions of data points daily, enabling real-time energy load balancing and seamless integration with smart devices such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers and heat pumps. This capability allows utilities to shift energy demand, reducing reliance on polluting power plants and promoting renewable energy adoption.
Kraken’s technology also empowers customers through incentives, such as discounted or free electricity during periods of high renewable generation. Orad emphasised the importance of electric vehicles as a key asset in this transition, describing them as “moving computers and moving batteries” that can significantly contribute to grid flexibility. The platform has already connected to numerous devices, managing over a gigawatt of electricity, equivalent to the output of two nuclear power plants.
In addition to retail-level flexibility, Kraken supports industrial sites and renewable assets, helping utilities optimise energy distribution and reduce emissions. Orad noted that the platform’s end-to-end approach, combined with its cloud-based infrastructure, enables rapid innovation and customer-centric solutions. For example, EDF reported launching three times as many new products in one year with Kraken compared to a decade using legacy systems.
Kraken’s success underscores the growing role of AI and digital ecosystems in modernising energy infrastructure, driving sustainability, and empowering consumers to participate in the green energy transition.
