Liverpool Extend Premier League Lead with Victory Over Newcastle

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 13 points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister secured the win, as the Reds continued their relentless march towards the title.

Szoboszlai opened the scoring in the 11th minute, capitalising on a cutback from Luis Díaz to fire past Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope. The Hungarian midfielder’s close-range effort sailed through a crowded penalty area, giving Liverpool an early advantage. Despite Newcastle creating a couple of promising chances in the first half, they failed to capitalise, leaving the door open for Liverpool to extend their lead.

Mac Allister doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute with a stunning strike into the top corner, set up by Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward, who has now been involved in 42 goals in 28 league games this season, delivered a precise cutback for the Argentinian to finish emphatically. Salah’s influence was once again pivotal, as he continued to showcase his exceptional form.

Newcastle struggled to mount a significant comeback, with Liverpool’s defence remaining resolute. The hosts came close to adding a third late in the game, but a disallowed goal and a series of near-misses ensured the scoreline remained 2-0. The result leaves Liverpool firmly in control of the title race, with Arsenal, their closest challengers, dropping points elsewhere.

Liverpool’s dominance was further highlighted by their impressive home form, having now scored at least two goals in 18 consecutive games at Anfield across all competitions. This victory also marked their 100th goal of the season in all competitions, underlining their attacking prowess.

With the title race seemingly in their grasp, Liverpool’s focus now shifts to their upcoming Champions League fixtures. As the Premier League leaders, they remain on course for a historic season, with the Anfield faithful already beginning to dream of silverware.
