Octopus Energy Launches 'The Collective' for Public Investment in Renewable Energy

Octopus Energy customers are being encouraged to invest as little as £25 in the company’s innovative “The Collective” scheme, which allows individuals to buy a share in renewable energy projects. The platform, the first of its kind authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), has already seen two wind turbine projects in Yorkshire and Wales fully subscribed within a week of its launch. Investors can monitor their contributions and the green energy output through their accounts, with Octopus customers having the added benefit of directing potential dividends towards reducing their energy bills.

Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Collective, highlighted the public’s enthusiasm for green energy investment, stating that the rapid sell-out of the first two projects demonstrates significant demand for democratising renewable energy ownership. The company has also launched its “Pass the Power” initiative, inviting other renewable energy projects to join the platform, further expanding opportunities for public ownership of clean energy infrastructure.

This initiative aligns with Octopus Energy’s broader mission to make renewable energy more accessible and affordable, while empowering individuals to play a direct role in the clean energy transition. The Collective offers a fee-free investment model, with options ranging from £25 to £20,000, making it an attractive proposition for both small and large investors.
