मोहम्मद कैफ ने रिकी पोंटिंग की कोचिंग स्ट्रेटेजी की आलोचना की है, जो पंजाब किंग्स (PBKS) के नए कोच बने हैं। कैफ, जो दिल्ली कैपिटल्स की कोचिंग स्टाफ का हिस्सा रहे हैं, ने बताया कि पोंटिंग ने अपने सात वर्षों के कार्यकाल में आईपीएल ट्रॉफी जीतने में असफल रहे, जबकि दिल्ली कैपिटल्स ने 2020 में फाइनल में जगह बनाई थी।
कैफ का कहना है कि पोंटिंग को अपनी रणनीतियों पर पुनर्विचार करना चाहिए था और उन्होंने उल्लेखित किया कि पूर्व भारतीय कप्तान सौरव गांगुली ने शिखर धवन को सनराइजर्स हैदराबाद से ट्रेड करने का समर्थन किया था, जिसके लिए पोंटिंग अनिच्छुक थे। गांगुली ने भारतीय खिलाड़ियों पर भरोसा रखने की आवश्यकता को महसूस किया, जिससे टीम को 2019 में धवन के साथ व्यापार करने के लिए मनाया गया।
कैफ ने इसके अलावा कहा कि पोंटिंग के पास अब अच्छे गेम प्लान्स नहीं हैं, और उनके फंड्स की रणनीति भी पिछले कोचों की तरह ही रही है। उन्होंने उदाहरण के तौर पर मुंबई इंडियंस का जिक्र किया, जिन्होंने अपने मुख्य खिलाड़ियों को बनाए रखा, भले ही उन्होंने खराब प्रदर्शन किया हो।
पोंटिंग की अगली चुनौती PBKS के साथ आईपीएल 2025 मेगा ऑक्शन होगी, जो 24 और 25 नवंबर को जेद्दाह, सऊदी अरब में होगी।
