26 नवंबर 2008 को मुंबई में हुए आतंकवादी हमले की 16वीं वर्षगांठ के अवसर पर पूरे देश ने उन शहीदों को याद किया जिन्होंने इस निर्दयता का सामना किया। इस हमले में कुल 166 लोग मारे गए, जिनमें 18 सुरक्षाकर्मी शामिल थे। हमलावर पाकिस्तान स्थित आतंकवादी समूह लश्कर-ए-ताइबा के थे, जिन्होंने शहर के विभिन्न प्रमुख स्थलों पर समन्वयित हमले किए, जिनमें ताजमहल पैलेस होटल, ओबेरॉय ट्राइडेंट होटल, छत्रपति शिवाजी टर्मिनस और नारिमन हाउस शामिल थे।
इस अवसर पर महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे और अन्य नेताओं ने मरीन लाइन्स में शहीद स्मारक पर पुष्पांजलि अर्पित की। राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू और केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भी सोशल मीडिया पर श्रद्धांजलियाँ अर्पित की।
इसी दौरान, हमले की एक प्रमुख गवाह, देविका रोतवान, जिन्होंने उस रात छत्रपति शिवाजी टर्मिनस पर गोलियों का शिकार होते हुए देखा था, ने अपनी यादें साझा कीं। अब 25 वर्षीय देविका ने कहा कि उस रात की दर्दनाक यादें आज भी उनके साथ हैं। उन्होंने कहा, “मुझे याद है कि मैं अपनी परिवार के साथ पुणे जाने की योजना बना रही थी और अचानक बम विस्फोट और फिर गोलियों की आवाज़ सुनाई दी।” उन्होंने अजमल कसाब की पहचान करने में मदद की, जो इस हमले के एकमात्र जीवित हमलावर थे और उनकी गवाही ने कसाब की सजा में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई।
दिल दहलाने वाली घटनाओं के बीच, सूक्ष्म रुख के साथ कई फिल्में और डॉक्यूमेंट्रीज़ भी बनीं, जिन्होंने इस दुखद घटना के पीछे की मानवता और साहस को उजागर किया। “होटल मुंबई,” “द अटैक्स ऑफ 26/11,” और “टेरर इन मुंबई” जैसी फिल्में आज भी इस भयानक घटना की भयावहता को दर्शाती हैं।
राजनैतिक और सामाजिक हलकों में, मुंबई की वीरता और एकता की चर्चा हुई। प्रसिद्ध उद्योगपति रतन टाटा, जिनका ताजमहल होटल भी हमले का निशाना था, ने इस घटना के बाद अपने होटल के कर्मचारियों के परिवारों को सहायता प्रदान करने का वादा किया था।
