भारतीय गेंदबाज मोहम्मद शमी ने इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ पांचवें और अंतिम टी20 मैच में वापसी करते हुए अपना पहला विकेट लिया। यह विकेट उन्होंने 2023 आईसीसी विश्व कप के बाद पहली बार अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में हासिल किया। शमी ने इंग्लैंड के ओपनर बेन डकेट को आउट करके 23 रन की शुरुआती साझेदारी को तोड़ा। डकेट ने शमी की गेंद को कवर पर अभिषेक शर्मा के हाथों कैच आउट कर दिया।

शमी का यह विकेट उनके लिए महत्वपूर्ण था क्योंकि उनका आखिरी अंतरराष्ट्रीय विकेट 19 नवंबर 2023 को विश्व कप फाइनल में आया था, जब उन्होंने ऑस्ट्रेलिया के डेविड वॉर्नर को आउट किया था। हालांकि, उस मैच में भारत ऑस्ट्रेलिया से हार गया था। इसके बाद शमी को टखने की चोट के कारण एक साल से अधिक समय तक अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट से दूर रहना पड़ा।

शमी ने हाल ही में रणजी ट्रॉफी में वापसी की और फिर इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ तीसरे टी20 में अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में लौटे। हालांकि, उस मैच में वे विकेट लेने में नाकाम रहे। पांचवें टी20 में उन्हें अर्शदीप सिंह की जगह टीम में शामिल किया गया। शमी ने इस मैच में 3 विकेट लेकर भारत को 150 रन से जीत दिलाने में अहम भूमिका निभाई।
