भारत ने इंग्लैंड को दूसरे वनडे में 4 विकेट से हराकर सीरीज में 2-0 की बढ़त बना ली। कटक के बाराबती स्टेडियम में खेले गए मैच में भारत ने इंग्लैंड के 304 रन के लक्ष्य को 44.3 ओवर में 308 रन बनाकर हासिल कर लिया। भारतीय कप्तान रोहित शर्मा ने शानदार शतक (119 रन, 90 गेंद, 12 चौके, 7 छक्के) जड़कर टीम को जीत दिलाई। यह रोहित का वनडे क्रिकेट में 32वां शतक था और उन्होंने राहुल द्रविड़ के 48 अंतरराष्ट्रीय शतक के रिकॉर्ड को पीछे छोड़ दिया।
रोहित और शुभमन गिल (60 रन, 52 गेंद) ने पहले विकेट के लिए 136 रन की साझेदारी की, जिसने भारत को मजबूत आधार दिया। हालांकि, बाद में भारत ने कुछ विकेट गंवाए, लेकिन अक्षर पटेल (41* रन) और रविंद्र जडेजा (7* रन) ने टीम को जीत तक पहुंचाया।

रोहित शर्मा को मैन ऑफ द मैच चुना गया। उन्होंने कहा, “मैंने अपनी पारी को छोटे-छोटे हिस्सों में बांटकर खेला। मैं जितना संभव हो सका, टीम के लिए रन बनाना चाहता था। गिल और श्रेयस आयर का साथ मिला, जिससे मैं आगे बढ़ सका।”
इंग्लैंड के कप्तान जोस बटलर ने कहा, “हमने बल्लेबाजी में अच्छी शुरुआत की, लेकिन 330-350 का स्कोर बनाना चाहिए था। रोहित ने शानदार पारी खेली और उन्हें श्रेय देना चाहिए। हमें सही दिशा में आगे बढ़ना होगा।”
