इसके बाद भारतीय गेंदबाजों ने इंग्लैंड को 34.2 ओवर में 214 रनों पर समेट दिया, जिससे भारत को दूसरा सबसे बड़ा वनडे जीत मिली। गिल के अलावा, विराट कोहली (52) और श्रेयस अय्यर (78) ने भी महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया। इंग्लैंड की पारी में बेन डकेट (34) और फिल सॉल्ट (24) ने शुरुआत की, लेकिन स्पिन गेंदबाजी के सामने उनकी टीम ने दबाव में आकर विकेट गंवा दिए।
गिल ने इस मैच में दो बड़े रिकॉर्ड भी बनाए। वह 2,500 वनडे रन पूरे करने वाले सबसे तेज बल्लेबाज बन गए, जो उन्होंने अपने 50वें मैच में हासिल किया। इसके साथ ही, उन्होंने 131 पारियों में 5,000 अंतरराष्ट्रीय रन भी पूरे कर लिए। गिल का यह सातवां वनडे शतक था और उन्होंने अहमदाबाद में अपने प्रदर्शन से एक बार फिर साबित कर दिया कि यह मैदान उनके लिए कितना खास है।
