अमेरिका में आज राष्ट्रपति दिवस (Presidents’ Day) के मौके पर चेस बैंक सहित कई प्रमुख बैंक, स्टॉक एक्सचेंज और सरकारी कार्यालय बंद रहेंगे। यह अवकाश हर साल फरवरी के तीसरे सोमवार को मनाया जाता है और इस बार यह 17 फरवरी, 2025 को पड़ रहा है। चेस बैंक ने घोषणा की है कि वह अपने सभी 4,700 शाखाओं को 24 घंटे के लिए बंद कर देगा। इसके अलावा, वेल्स फार्गो, सिटी बैंक जैसे अन्य प्रमुख बैंक भी इस दिन बंद रहेंगे। हालांकि, ऑनलाइन बैंकिंग और एटीएम सेवाएं उपलब्ध रहेंगी।
न्यूयॉर्क स्टॉक एक्सचेंज (NYSE) और नैस्डैक जैसे स्टॉक एक्सचेंज भी इस दिन ट्रेडिंग के लिए बंद रहेंगे। यूएस पोस्टल सर्विस और अधिकांश सरकारी कार्यालय भी इस अवकाश का पालन करेंगे। हालांकि, रेस्तरां, ग्रॉसरी स्टोर और अन्य व्यवसाय खुले रहेंगे।
राष्ट्रपति दिवस मूल रूप से अमेरिका के पहले राष्ट्रपति जॉर्ज वाशिंगटन के जन्मदिन के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाता है, जिनका जन्म 22 फरवरी, 1732 को हुआ था। बाद में इसे अब्राहम लिंकन के जन्मदिन (12 फरवरी) के साथ जोड़कर मनाया जाने लगा। 1971 में यूनिफॉर्म मंडे हॉलिडे एक्ट के तहत इसे फरवरी के तीसरे सोमवार को मनाने का निर्णय लिया गया था।
