22 फरवरी, 2025 को लाहौर के गद्दाफी स्टेडियम में आयोजित आईसीसी चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी के चौथे मैच में ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने इंग्लैंड को 5 विकेट से हराकर टूर्नामेंट के इतिहास में सबसे बड़ा रन चेस पूरा किया। ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने इंग्लैंड के 351 रन के लक्ष्य को 47.3 ओवर में हासिल कर लिया, जिसमें जोश इंग्लिस ने 120 रन की शानदार पारी खेली।
इंग्लैंड ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए बेन डकेट के 165 रन और जो रूट के 68 रन की मदद से 351 रन का विशाल स्कोर खड़ा किया। डकेट ने चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी के इतिहास में सबसे ज्यादा व्यक्तिगत स्कोर का रिकॉर्ड बनाया। हालांकि, ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने शुरुआती झटकों के बावजूद मैथ्यू शॉर्ट (63), मार्नस लाबुशेन (47), एलेक्स केरी (69) और जोश इंग्लिस के बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन से मैच को अपने नाम कर लिया। इंग्लिस ने 86 गेंदों में 6 छक्के और 8 चौके लगाए और मैच को जीतने वाला छक्का लगाकर ऑस्ट्रेलिया को जीत दिलाई।
इस जीत के साथ ऑस्ट्रेलिया ग्रुप बी में दूसरे स्थान पर पहुंच गया, जबकि इंग्लैंड को अब सेमीफाइनल की उम्मीद बचाए रखने के लिए दक्षिण अफ्रीका के खिलाफ जीत की जरूरत है।
मैच के बाद ऑस्ट्रेलिया के कप्तान स्टीव स्मिथ ने कहा कि टीम का प्रदर्शन शानदार था और जोश इंग्लिस की पारी ने मैच का रुख बदल दिया। वहीं, इंग्लैंड के कप्तान जोस बटलर ने डकेट की पारी की सराहना की, लेकिन टीम की गेंदबाजी और फील्डिंग पर निराशा जताई।
यह मैच ऑस्ट्रेलिया और इंग्लैंड के बीच प्रतिद्वंद्विता का एक और अध्याय जोड़ गया, जिसमें ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने एक बार फिर अपनी बाजी मारी।
