केरल ने रणजी ट्रॉफी के इतिहास में पहली बार फाइनल में जगह बनाई है। गुजरात के खिलाफ सेमीफाइनल मैच में केरल ने पहली पारी में महज दो रनों की बढ़त हासिल कर यह उपलब्धि हासिल की। मैच का निर्णायक मोड़ तब आया जब गुजरात को पहली पारी में 455 रनों पर ऑल आउट कर दिया गया, जबकि केरल ने पहली पारी में 457 रन बनाए थे।

केरल के स्पिन गेंदबाज आदित्य सारवते और जलज सक्सेना ने मैच में अहम भूमिका निभाई। सारवते ने 45.4 ओवर में 111 रन देकर चार विकेट लिए, जबकि सक्सेना ने 71 ओवर की मेहनत के बाद 149 रन देकर चार विकेट झटके। मैच के आखिरी दिन गुजरात को जीत के लिए 29 रनों की जरूरत थी, लेकिन केरल की गेंदबाजी और फील्डिंग ने उन्हें रोक दिया।

मैच का सबसे रोमांचक पल तब आया जब गुजरात के आखिरी बल्लेबाज प्रियजितसिंह जडेजा और अर्जुन नागवसवाला ने टीम को केरल के स्कोर के करीब पहुंचा दिया। हालांकि, नागवसवाला की गेंद सारवते के हाथों कैच हो गई, जिससे केरल ने दो रनों की बढ़त हासिल की और फाइनल में जगह बना ली।
