ग्यानेश कुमार नए मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त नियुक्त
राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने सोमवार को ग्यानेश कुमार को नया मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (सीईसी) नियुक्त किया। वह राजीव कुमार का स्थान लेंगे, जो 65 वर्ष की आयु पूरी करने के बाद मंगलवार को पद छोड़ देंगे। ग्यानेश कुमार का नाम प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी, गृह मंत्री अमित शाह और लोकसभा में विपक्ष के नेता राहुल गांधी की अध्यक्षता वाली चयन समिति द्वारा तय किया गया था। यह नियुक्ति चुनाव आयुक्तों की नियुक्ति से संबंधित नए कानून के तहत की गई है।
ग्यानेश कुमार 1988 बैच के केरल कैडर के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं और जनवरी 2023 में सहकारिता मंत्रालय के सचिव के रूप में सेवानिवृत्त हुए थे। उन्होंने मई 2022 से अमित शाह के नेतृत्व वाले गृह मंत्रालय में सचिव के रूप में कार्य किया। इससे पहले, वह सितंबर 2018 से अप्रैल 2021 तक गृह मंत्रालय में अतिरिक्त सचिव और मई 2016 से सितंबर 2018 तक संयुक्त सचिव के रूप में कार्यरत थे। अगस्त 2019 में जब अनुच्छेद 370 को निरस्त किया गया था, तब वह जम्मू-कश्मीर डेस्क के प्रमुख थे।
ग्यानेश कुमार के साथ ही, हरियाणा के मुख्य सचिव डॉ. विवेक जोशी को चुनाव आयुक्त नियुक्त किया गया है। जोशी 1989 बैच के आईएएस अधिकारी हैं और उन्होंने पहले केंद्र सरकार में कार्मिक सचिव और भारत के महापंजीयक एवं जनगणना आयुक्त के रूप में कार्य किया है।
यह पहली बार है जब चुनाव आयुक्तों की नियुक्ति के लिए बने नए कानून के तहत सीईसी की नियुक्ति की गई है। इस कानून के तहत, प्रधानमंत्री, गृह मंत्री और लोकसभा में विपक्ष के नेता की समिति द्वारा चुनाव आयुक्तों का चयन किया जाता है।
ग्यानेश कुमार का कार्यकाल 27 जनवरी 2029 तक रहेगा, जब वह 65 वर्ष की आयु पूरी करेंगे। उनकी नियुक्ति से चुनाव आयोग की तीन सदस्यीय संरचना फिर से बहाल हो गई है।
