इस घटना के बाद, पाकिस्तान को सऊद शकील को बाबर आजम के साथ ओपनिंग करनी पड़ी। क्रिकेट के नियम 25.3 के अनुसार, यदि कोई खिलाड़ी पेनल्टी टाइम पूरा नहीं करता है, तो उसे बल्लेबाजी करने की अनुमति नहीं होती है। फखर जमान को केवल 20 मिनट के बाद या पांच विकेट गिरने के बाद ही बल्लेबाजी करने की अनुमति मिली।
न्यूजीलैंड ने यह मैच 60 रन से जीता, जिसमें विल यंग (107) और टॉम लैथम (118*) ने शानदार प्रदर्शन किया। फखर जमान की अनुपस्थिति पाकिस्तान के लिए एक बड़ा झटका था, क्योंकि वह न्यूजीलैंड के खिलाफ ओडीआई में 65.81 के औसत से 1,053 रन बना चुके हैं।
