मैच की शुरुआत में रोहित शर्मा ने आक्रामक बल्लेबाजी करते हुए 41 रन बनाए, लेकिन उनके आउट होने के बाद भारत की पारी में थोड़ी अस्थिरता आई। हालांकि, गिल ने धैर्य और संयम के साथ पारी को आगे बढ़ाया और भारत को जीत दिलाई। यह गिल का आठवां वनडे शतक था और उन्होंने एक बार फिर साबित किया कि वह वर्तमान में दुनिया के सर्वश्रेष्ठ वनडे बल्लेबाजों में से एक हैं।
