2025 Medicare Costs Set to Rise; Premium Increases Announced for Seniors
Seniors will face increased costs for Medicare in 2025 as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a rise in premiums and deductibles. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B will increase by approximately 6%, rising to $185.00 from $174.70 in 2024. Additionally, the annual deductible for Medicare Part B will also see an increase, climbing to $257 from $240.
These changes are set to take effect starting January 2025 and come at a time when the annual inflation rate is around 2.4% and the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is set at 2.5%. The premium increase outpaces inflation and the COLA, putting additional financial pressure on beneficiaries.
High-income enrollees will incur further costs due to the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA), which applies to those with individual incomes exceeding $106,000. For these individuals, the total monthly premiums will significantly rise depending on their income levels.
The increase in Medicare Part A will also affect costs, with the inpatient hospital deductible scheduled to rise to $1,676, up $44 from the previous year.
These adjustments, influenced by projected price changes and increased utilization, reflect a broader trend affecting potential beneficiaries. As the adjustments commence, those already receiving Social Security benefits will see new premiums deducted from their payments.
