Tragic Loss in Soccer; Ecuadorian Star Marco Angulo Dies in Car Crash
Ecuador and FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo has tragically passed away at the age of 22 due to injuries sustained in a car crash on October 7. The accident, which occurred on the Rumiñahui highway southeast of Quito, also claimed the life of his former youth teammate, Roberto Cabezas, along with a friend, Victor Carcopa.
Angulo suffered severe head injuries and a lung contusion, leading to multiple surgeries and over a week in intensive care. He succumbed to his injuries on November 12, as confirmed by the Ecuadorian Football Association.
Recognized for his dedication to Ecuadorian soccer, Angulo represented the nation at various youth levels before making his senior debut in 2022. He joined FC Cincinnati in December 2022 and was part of the team that won the Supporters’ Shield in 2023. After a season in Major League Soccer, he was loaned to LDU Quito in March 2024, where he made 16 appearances.
Both FC Cincinnati and LDU Quito expressed deep sorrow over Angulo’s passing, highlighting his positive spirit and the impact he had on his teammates and the wider community. The football world mourns the loss of a talented player who had a promising future ahead of him.
