Alabama Crimson Tide Dominates Mercer Bears with a 52-7 Victory
The Alabama Crimson Tide faced off against the Mercer Bears in their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The game, held at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, ended decisively with Alabama dominating Mercer 52-7.
Ranked No. 10 in the nation, Alabama improved its record to 8-2 while Mercer, ranked No. 7 in the FCS, fell to 9-2. The Crimson Tide showcased their offensive prowess early, scoring the first 28 points of the game, benefiting significantly from turnovers and standout performances from players like freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams, who scored two touchdowns, and quarterback Jalen Milroe, who had three touchdown passes along with significant yardage on the ground.
The Bears managed to find the end zone late in the first half when quarterback Whitt Newbauer connected with receiver Kendall Harris for a 31-yard touchdown pass. However, Alabama responded quickly, adding to their lead with a 45-yard field goal by Graham Nicholson just before halftime, bringing the score to 31-7.
In the second half, the Crimson Tide’s offense continued to click, with Milroe scoring another touchdown on a three-yard rush. Second-string quarterback Ty Simpson further extended Alabama’s lead as he connected with tight end Josh Cuevas for a 43-yard gain, followed by a one-yard touchdown rush from Richard Young. The game concluded with Austin Mack throwing a touchdown pass to Rico Scott for a 31-yard score, solidifying Alabama’s 52-point performance.
Defensively, Alabama was formidable, forcing multiple turnovers, including a fumble return touchdown by Zabien Brown, which marked their first non-offensive touchdown of the season. The Crimson Tide defense held Mercer to just 120 yards of total offense.
Looking forward, Alabama’s focus will shift to their upcoming game against Oklahoma on November 23, while Mercer aims to bounce back in their next matchup against Furman.
