Texas Longhorns Triumph Over Arkansas Razorbacks, Strengthens SEC Championship Hopes

No. 3 Texas Longhorns secured a 20-10 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks in a competitive matchup at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday, November 16. This win enhances Texas’ prospects for both the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff.

The Longhorns, now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in SEC play, relied heavily on their defense, which forced two turnovers and limited Arkansas to just 231 total yards of offense. Texas celebrated standout performances from defensive players Alfred Collins and Jahdae Barron, who both contributed significantly to stifling the Razorbacks.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 176 yards, completing 20 of 32 passes and tossing two touchdown passes to receiver Matthew Golden. Golden’s two catches resulted in touchdowns, both pivotal in maintaining Texas’ lead throughout the game. Ewers’ performance marked his 21st consecutive game with a passing touchdown.

The first quarter saw the Longhorns take an early lead with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ewers to Golden. Kicker Bert Auburn then made two field goals, extending Texas’ lead to 13-0 by the third quarter. Arkansas responded with a touchdown drive capped by a one-yard run from Ja’Quinden Jackson and later added a 44-yard field goal from Matthew Shipley, narrowing Texas’ lead to 13-10.

In the fourth quarter, Texas advanced their lead back to 10 points with Ewers’ second touchdown to Golden. With less than seven minutes remaining, Collins forced a fumble, which was recovered by Michael Taaffe, allowing Texas to run out the clock and secure the win.

Texas now looks forward to hosting Kentucky on November 23 as they continue their chase for a championship title. Meanwhile, Arkansas drops to 5-5 and will aim to regain momentum as they seek bowl eligibility.
