Vikings Triumph Over Titans with Stellar Performance from Sam Darnold
The Minnesota Vikings secured a crucial victory over the Tennessee Titans, winning 23-13 in Nashville, improving their record to 8-2. The Titans, now at 2-8, continued to struggle with penalties and pass protection, allowing five sacks during the game.
Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold had a bouncing-back performance after a tumultuous previous game, completing 20 of 32 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Darnold found Jordan Addison for a 47-yard touchdown early in the first quarter, establishing an early lead for Minnesota. He later added a one-yard rushing touchdown to cap off a 16-play drive that was extended by a highly debated unnecessary roughness penalty on Titans safety Mike Brown.
The Titans opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal from Nick Folk, taking a 3-0 lead before Darnold’s touchdown pass shifted momentum. Tennessee fought back with a highlight moment when quarterback Will Levis connected with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine for a stunning 98-yard touchdown, narrowing Minnesota’s lead to 16-10 late in the third quarter. This tied the play for the longest touchdown pass in NFL this season.
However, the Vikings quickly took back control of the game, as Darnold threw a touchdown pass to Cam Akers following a key defensive penalty against the Titans, pushing the score to 23-10. Though Folk added another field goal for Tennessee in the fourth quarter, they could not overcome their continuing issues, which included a total of 13 penalties for 91 yards.
Levis finished the game with 295 yards passing, a touchdown, and one interception, while the Titans’ running game struggled significantly, recording only 33 rushing yards which marked a season-low.
The Titans, who have faced numerous controversies regarding officiating in recent weeks, will hope to regroup and find success as they prepare to face the Houston Texans next Sunday. Meanwhile, the Vikings aim to maintain their winning streak as they wrap up their road trip against the Chicago Bears.
