The National Weather Service has issued a lake-effect snow warning for Cuyahoga and Lake counties, lasting until 2 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2024. A winter weather advisory is also in effect for Geauga County during the same period. This winter weather alert coincides with Northeast Ohio experiencing its first significant snowfall of the season.

Forecasts predict snow accumulations between 3 to 8 inches, especially in eastern Cuyahoga and western Lake counties, with the potential for localized spots receiving up to 5 inches. Meteorologists indicate that the heaviest snowfall is expected from Thursday evening into early Friday morning, which may lead to slippery road conditions and reduced visibility, impacting Thursday evening commutes.

Residents are advised to expect rapid changes in weather conditions and to exercise caution, particularly on untreated surfaces. As snow falls, roads may quickly become treacherous; vehicles have already been reported in ditches due to slick conditions in parts of Lake County. Visibility is expected to drop to less than a quarter-mile in some areas due to heavy snow.

Meteorologists emphasize the importance of location accuracy regarding lake-effect snow, indicating that communities on the eastern fringe, such as Euclid and Maple Heights, might experience the worst of the conditions. The snow, which began during the Pittsburgh Steelers versus Cleveland Browns game on Thursday night, is anticipated to taper off after midnight, transitioning to a mix of rain and wet snow.
