Kentucky Wildcats Fall to Texas Longhorns, Ending Postseason Hopes

The Kentucky Wildcats faced off against the No. 3 Texas Longhorns on Saturday at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, ultimately falling to the Longhorns with a final score of 31-14. This loss marks Kentucky’s seventh defeat of the season, eliminating their chances for postseason play for the first time since 2015.

Kentucky started the game strong but struggled offensively throughout. The Wildcats tied the game 7-7 early in the second quarter, thanks to a touchdown pass from Brock Vandagriff to Josh Kattus. However, Texas quickly regained momentum, scoring 17 unanswered points to lead 24-7 at halftime. The Longhorns dominated offensively, outgaining Kentucky 295-99 in total yards during the first half.

In the second half, Kentucky made a quarterback change, bringing in true freshman Cutter Boley. Boley demonstrated his potential, connecting on several key plays and even leading a defensive touchdown when Kentucky’s defense capitalized on a Texas fumble, narrowing the score to 24-14. Despite this, Texas sealed their victory with another touchdown, bringing the final score to 31-14.

The Wildcats’ season has been disappointing overall, finishing with a 4-7 record and only one win in the SEC. Head Coach Mark Stoops will face pressure to regroup his team as they prepare for a rivalry matchup against the Louisville Cardinals in the final game of the season.
