Drunk Driving Tragedy; Bride Killed on Wedding Night
A South Carolina woman, Jamie Lee Komoroski, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a drunk driving incident that resulted in the death of bride Samantha Miller on her wedding night in April 2023. Komoroski, 27, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including felony DUI resulting in death, reckless homicide, and felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
The tragic crash occurred when Komoroski was driving her car at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, with a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit. She collided with a golf cart carrying Miller and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, just hours after their wedding ceremony at Folly Beach. Miller, 34, was killed instantly while still in her wedding dress, and Hutchinson sustained severe injuries, including a brain injury and multiple broken bones.
During the sentencing hearing, Hutchinson shared his heartbreaking final moments with Miller, recalling how she expressed her desire for the night to continue. He tearfully stated, “I wish I had died that night,” underscoring the emotional toll of the loss. Miller’s family members also voiced their anguish, with her father, Brad Warner, stating, “For the rest of my life, I’m gonna hate you,” directed at Komoroski.
In court, Komoroski expressed deep remorse for her actions, acknowledging her alcohol addiction and taking full responsibility for the tragedy. She stated, “This is the worst decision I have ever made in my life,” and promised to dedicate her life to helping others struggling with addiction.
The case highlighted the devastating consequences of impaired driving, serving as a somber reminder of the risks associated with alcohol consumption. The couple’s wedding celebration turned into profound grief for their families, who are now left to navigate a life without Samantha Miller.
