Jack Schlossberg Criticizes Trump's Declassification of JFK Assassination Documents

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, has criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to declassify documents related to his grandfather’s assassination, calling the move exploitative and politically motivated. In a series of social media posts, Schlossberg argued that Trump is using JFK as a “political prop” and dismissed the declassification as lacking heroism. “The truth is a lot sadder than the myth—a tragedy that didn’t need to happen,” Schlossberg wrote. “Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back. There’s nothing heroic about it.”

Trump signed an executive order on Thursday directing the release of classified documents related to the assassinations of JFK, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The order requires the director of national intelligence and the attorney general to present a plan for the full release of JFK-related records within 15 days and for the other cases within 45 days. Trump framed the move as a long-overdue act of transparency, stating, “Everything will be revealed.”

Schlossberg, a Democrat and vocal critic of Trump, also took aim at his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has promoted conspiracy theories about JFK’s assassination. RFK Jr., Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, has suggested that the CIA may have been involved in his uncle’s death. Schlossberg challenged RFK Jr. to review the declassified documents and address his claims publicly.

The release of the documents has reignited decades-old conspiracy theories surrounding JFK’s assassination in 1963. While many experts believe the declassified files are unlikely to reveal groundbreaking new information, the move has sparked significant public interest. Schlossberg’s comments underscore the Kennedy family’s ongoing discomfort with the politicization of JFK’s legacy and the persistent speculation surrounding his death.
