Marilyn Manson Cleared of Criminal Charges in Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Case
After a four-year investigation, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced on January 24, 2025, that Marilyn Manson, whose legal name is Brian Warner, will not face criminal charges related to sexual assault and domestic violence allegations. The decision was made because the domestic violence claims fell outside the statute of limitations, and prosecutors could not prove sexual assault charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation involved multiple women, including actress Evan Rachel Wood and “Game of Thrones” star Esmé Bianco, who accused Manson of abuse, rape, and other forms of misconduct. Wood, who was in a relationship with Manson from 2006 to 2011, alleged that he groomed her as a teenager and subjected her to years of abuse. Bianco, who settled a lawsuit against Manson in 2023, expressed disappointment but not surprise at the decision, citing systemic issues such as victim-blaming and restrictive statutes of limitations.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman acknowledged the courage of the women who came forward, stating that their advocacy has raised awareness about the challenges faced by survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Manson’s attorney, Howard King, maintained his client’s innocence, stating that the evidence supported their position from the start.
Despite the decision, the DA’s office emphasized its commitment to seeking justice for survivors and encouraged victims to report abuse promptly. Manson, who has consistently denied all allegations, continues to tour and perform, with a U.S. tour announced shortly after the decision.
